News From PIAC - August 2025

Leap Direct-to-Printer / QZ Tray

At the August IUG Forum, some customers reported difficulties configuring the new Direct-to-Printer options in Polaris 7.8. The platform was designed so that any printer that previously worked in Leap, should still be able to work with minimal changes.

Setting up new printers for ExpressCheck, particularly some STAR models, may require additional configuration during the initial setup. Information about this configuration has already been shared on the IUG Forums. Additionally, other customers noted challenges deploying the QZ Tray certificate across multiple workstations. PIAC shared these concerns, along with other potential use-cases, with Clarivate staff.

Clarivate plans to develop more documentation to support libraries using the new Direct-to-Printer features.

Suggested Articles in ProQuest’s Case Management Software

PIAC members noted a recent change in the new case management system that displays “related” support articles when creating a case. However, since Polaris support articles are currently housed in Innovative’s legacy knowledgebase, these suggestions are often irrelevant, unhelpful, and re-arrange the content on the page.

Clarivate confirmed that this behavior was unintentional and has already started working to remove these suggestions for Polaris users. In the future, when Polaris support content is migrated to the new system, (related) support article suggestions will be re-enabled.

Innovative Documentation Corrections

PIAC also reported some changes with how Clarivate’s documentation team is handling update requests submitted via the Innovative Supportal. Clarivate confirmed that documentation requests are still being processed, though recent staff turnover may have introduced some new procedures.

Customers are encouraged to continue submitting documentation feedback through the Innovative Supportal. The documentation team works through each of those requests to update documentation as needed.

Sierra to Polaris Migration Concerns

PIAC shared observations that some Sierra customers who’ve recently migrated to Polaris seem to be struggling with the transition - particularly in identifying equivalent reports and understanding how to perform batch changes. To support these future migrations, PIAC suggested creating a mapping of the most popular Sierra reports and their Polaris equivalent. If other Sierra libraries have recent experiences or improvements they’d like to share, please contact PIAC at polaris-committee@innovativeusers.org.
