With limited resources available, libraries are evaluating all of their products to make sure staff and patrons are getting the most bang for their buck. For some libraries, it makes more sense to go with a mix of product vendors instead of using all the products from the same vendor. That is the route we took at Saginaw Valley State University when we moved to a non-III discovery layer while keeping our Sierra ILS. As co-lead of the team that installed our discovery layer, I will share my experiences and offer tips and tricks I learned along the way.
