Making Lemonade: New Interlibrary Loan Opportunities in a Shared Catalog

Making Lemonade: New Interlibrary Loan Opportunities in a Shared Catalog

University of Memphis shares its instance of Sierra with three other institutions and our users express deep frustration that books from partner schools filter into their WebPAC results. By inserting OpenURL Interlibrary Loan 856s into monographic records held by other institutions, we have leveraged the discovery capabilities of the shared catalog and promoted Interlibrary Loan as an access alternative. We have also worked with EBSCO to create and enable Google Scholar and Interlibary Loan “customlinks” for titles indexed by EBSCO Discovery Service and not available to our users, directly translating discovery into access in Encore Duet.
