K06 Making Your Item Records Make Sense

Pierce County Library System’s item record coding was a legacy from our previous ILS with over 170 collection codes. In an effort to improve customer/staff findability of materials, PCLS conducted a cross-departmental project to examine data needs and to create a structure for the item record coding. Other goals included being as intuitive as possible, to have data organized in a way that draws clear paths between the fields, and to reduce the number of stickers on the spine.

This session will cover our process, how we were successful gaining buy-in from all departments, and how this project improved reporting.
