Forgot to add .epo in FTP'ing book order to Ingram

We forgot a step in FTP’ing our book order to Ingram: adding .epo to the file name upon transferring the file to the “incoming” folder in Sierra. Our understanding is that without it, Ingram does not receive the order- though I haven’t gotten confirmation from them yet (slow response, unfortunately).

Has this happened to anyone else? What did you do to resolve the error and send the file on its way?

It’s correct that Ingram will not process an order file that does not have the .epo file extension. The reason for that is they have an automatic task set up on their server to periodically look for new files ending in .epo in your inbox and that simply ignores anything that doesn’t match those parameters.

There are a few ways to fix this depending on your workflow preferences.

  • Put in a support request with Ingram and just ask them to rename the file for you (or relocate it if you’ve placed it in the wrong directory, which is a similar issue)

  • Send the order again, the incorrect file will just be ignored so you don’t have to worry about duplicating the order, though this will lead to the orders in Sierra showing that they have been sent twice

  • Log in to Ingram’s FTP site outside of Sierra with the ftp client of your choosing. Sierra doesn’t allow you to rename or relocate files but Ingram usually does provide you those permissions. So if you use something like FileZilla or WinSCP to access the server you can just go and rename the file yourself.

    • This trick is also useful for relocating files in the wrong directory or deleting old invoices you’ve already downloaded and are tired of cluttering up the list of files.
