We are looking at SMS alternatives? We have a quote coming from Clarivate/Innovative, and if anyone has any input on their experiences with their service, that would be great.
Also, is anyone using another service? If so, are they easy to set up? How is customer service? We are currently very understaffed in the computer services department.
Of the ones on that list, I would suggest that your most “hands off” option is probably going to be shoutbomb. Although I’ve not used them directly, I’ve known libraries who have. They are a very small operation but also have a very narrow focus which typically means a quicker turnaround time.
At my consortium we use MessageBee which works well for the level of customization and volume we need.
Hello!
We are currently using the new SMS service from Innovative/Clarivate. We have used it since go-live in mid-April. For the most part it works just fine. It has English, Spanish and French language translations, which is ok. We would like to see more languages supported. Additionally, not all notice types are supported yet but there are more on the roadmap.
We did have a hiccup early on where patron’s were not receiving both email and SMS even if Notification Option was set as Email and the Additional Text Message button was checked. After some back and forth they fixed something and that seems to be working fine.
Let me know if you have other questions.
Aaron
I’d like to second the MessageBee recommendation - we have been using MessageBee since the end of April and are happy with it. It’s been largely set-it-and-forget-it but their customer service has been very good (prompt, helpful) when we’ve needed to reach out to them.
