SDA Startup Issues

Hi, this is a bit of a survey to see if other Sierra libraries experience something similar.

The experience has been that for many users, when starting up SDA, it can take several attempts (5+) to log in successfully, but not all the time, or with all users. I’ve definitely worked with Sierra support to try to fix, but nothing really seems to address the persistent issue. Sierra Web always works fine. Is this a common issue with SDA, do other libraries experience this?

Yes Sam, we experience that at Stark Library.  We are Clarivate-hosted and running Sierra 6.3 since late March, but the login issues were definitely present with version 6.2 if not earlier.

I personally don’t have to try 5+ times to log in, but 2-3 times is not unusual and succeeding on the first try usually comes as a pleasant surprise.  The login experience reported by some branches tends to be worse than mine.  We have tried submitting SDA log files to Support (the kind produced by redirecting output in the iiirunner.lax file, as well as \Sierra Desktop App\starts.log) but there was never any smoking gun logged upon which to take action.

This is the Java error dialog seen at startup failure:

If someone had the time and patience for it, it might be interesting to have a process monitor session running to see if you could glean any information from that tool about the hang-ups. That tool can give you a fire hose of information and might help pinpoint where the issue is happening.

Thanks @wesochuck, I’ll give that a shot and post back here if I learn anything.
