Pre-Processing E-Resource MARC Data for Batch Load: Challenges and Solutions
OCLC WorldShare Collection Manager (WCM) provides exciting new options for batch delivery of MARC records, but it has some quirks. So do Millennium and Sierra. Combined, these create some challenges for managing WCM records in the ILS. In this session, I’ll cover some challenges we’ve encountered, including handling “update” records with new OCLC#s, leveraging record updates without breaking the authority control budget, and more. I’ll also share tools and workflows we’ve developed to overcome these challenges. I manage e-resource collections in a large academic institution, but practices for managing e-resource MARC vary widely, so I’ll leave plenty of time for questions.
