P02 Doing More With Data: From Acquisitions to Cataloging and Beyond

How do you determine which potential titles fill gaps in your collection? This project focuses on Bowdoin College Library’s recent acquisition of 6000 DVD titles from a local DVD rental store. Using Sierra’s Create Lists to export collection data and OpenRefine to compare that against the store’s inventory, the Library was able to prepare acquisition candidate lists for staff and faculty review. Using MarcEdit’s Delimited Text Translation tool, the Library leveraged the same data to create brief MARC records, and print call number labels for end processing. For all types of libraries.
