We have some documents in our system regarding flood protection. They are not for circulation. The status is “Library Use Only”. When a patron looks these up in Vega the system says, “No Copies Available”. If they click on the link to the branch location it reveals the call number and the status as “Library Use Only”. Is there a way to leave it as “Library Use Only” and have Vega show it as “available”?
Also, I can put notes and messages in Sierra regarding where to find these documents in the library. Is there a way to add some type of note or tag to Vega that the patron can see?
We don’t use Vega Discover, but I think this section of the Discover admin docs may be helpful for configuring “Library Use Only” to display as an “Available” status: Map item status
Unfortunately, displaying notes in Discover appears to be a Polaris-only feature: Enable public notes
I have our LIB USE ONLY items set in Vega so that they are Available but I have Suppress Get It toggled on. I don’t have the “Suppress It” box checked.
As for messaging, what I had to do for items that go in a kiosk, where no holds are allowed, was add the OPACMSG I set up for that, which then displays:
Of course, with Vega, they can still attempt to place a hold, but it will instead go on one of the other copies. This message was my workaround. I’m sure no one reads it and there is no way to make it bold/call out that OPACMSG field in the Vega display. It’s actually much more obvious in the WebPAC:
