Polaris 7.8 Upgrade

Polaris 7.8 has been released! This upgrade introduces a range of new features including expanded System Administration options in the web-based PolarisAdmin utility and additional Acquisitions functionality in Leap.

PIAC requested more details about about two of the changes that will require additional configuration from customers:

Receipt Printing Improvements in Leap

Polaris 7.8 brings a new “Direct to Printer” option in Leap, which enables users to print receipts and slips directly to the printer, bypassing the browser’s “confirm” dialog. This feature requires the installation of additional software called QZ Tray. The software is free, but there are some additional steps to be aware of:

  • The QZ Tray software needs to be installed on each computer that uses Leap to print receipts or slips.
  • A printer certificate needs to be installed and configured on the Polaris server.
    • Hosted customers should contact Support to complete this procedure.

Export Reminder Notices (SMS)

The Polaris job that exports SMS notices to a vendor (such as Polaris SMS, MessageBee, etc.) will be expanded to include Polaris’ three reminder notices: Almost Overdue/Auto-Renew, Inactive Patron, and Expired Patron.

The new reminder notice types will be included in Polaris’ “enhanced profile” for SFTP exports. Vendors that currently utilize the enhanced profile will also be able receive the reminder notification types.

Polaris Pickup Areas

Last year, Polaris introduced new Hold Pickup Area functionality in Leap and PowerPAC, allowing customers to configure special hold locations such as pickup lockers or drive-thru windows that can be selected when placing a hold.

PIAC raised concerns that this functionality has not yet been fully implemented in the full suite of Vega products. Clarivate acknowledged the concerns and clarified that the various product teams are working towards implementing hold pickup areas. As of the last PIAC meeting, the exact timeline is still undetermined but customers interested in using Pickup Areas in Vega Mobile, Discover, and LX Starter should track the features on the product road map.
