In addition to full time staff, many libraries are staffed with students, hourly employees, and volunteers. Supervision of these part time employees requires the supervisor to achieve consistency in hiring, training, and management in order to make the investment in the employee’s development profitable to the organization. In this presentation, participants will discuss the nature of part time employees and review factors that motivate these individuals. We will also review basic hiring, orientation, training and evaluation recommendations.
