Inserting CAPTCHA on /selfreg template

Hello,
Our library is trying to set up the /selfreg template for new registrations but we are struggling with the insertion of CAPTCHA on that page. Would any libraries be willing to reach out to me directly (ewright@virl.bc.ca) to let me know what kind of solution you implemented, and how you managed to install it?

Thank you in advance for your expertise. I understand that Innovative is coming out with a solution for online registration that writes to the Sierra database, but I don’t think the roadmap for this has been announced yet.

Thank you,

Elizabeth, I tried, but was never able to get this to work for our hosted Sierra WebPAC. Hopefully you’ll have better luck and can share your findings!

Hi Elizabeth,

I tried to set this up on our selfreg form in the fall and when I submitted a ticket to Innovative, they said: “Engineering is investigating a way to control the abuse of the patron self registration process and I will add your library to the list of those requesting this functionality. Currently there is not a documented way to add reCAPTCHA to the self registration form.”

My understanding is that, as a hosted library, we’d need Innovative to do the secret key verification setup on the server for us, so I don’t believe we can accomplish it without them. If you’re a self-hosted institution you might have more control that would allow you to do it. If you’re hosted, it might still be worth contacting them so you can get added to that list of institutions requesting it.

Hope that helps!

Daisy
