How long does it take to load large numbers of student records in LEAP?

If anyone has experience with thousands of student records in leap, could you tell me how long it takes you? I’m anticipating 300k students in one go. I’ve been doing it in the polaris client, but I’m worried this time about it possibly failing and having to redo it, so I’d like to know how long it takes in LEAP. Thanks

I can’t comment directly on performance, but I would 100% break these up if at all humanly possible.

Otherwise, one bad entry could have you hunting for hours for the source of the problem and possibly needing to burn & reimport thousands of records. I fell like @Talia_Hofacker has some experience here too.

I would at least consider splitting into maybe 50k chunks. You can likely find some one-shot powershell scripts out there to help you break up the file. But if you’re having trouble finding one let me know and I can see about whipping something up for you.

I upload about 34500 student records at once and it takes about 20-24 hours in the background. My faculty import of 6000 records takes about 2 hours.

The dev responsible for the Leap upload process did come up to talk to me after my presentation at IUG and said he would recommend splitting the uploads to reduce time and failure points. I haven’t seen any upload failures happen since testing, which were caused by errors on my part in the spreadsheet, so I’m just going to keep the size the same. However, with 300k, splitting them into smaller batches is probably better for you.

Ahh, yes, I thought I remembered there was a presentation. Thanks for doing that! And it looks like the slides are already posted: Getting Started with Patron Imports & Student Cards
