(Apologies to anyone who may be seeing this for the second or possibly even third time, but apparently the version sent to the listserv is being inconsistently delivered.)
As you probably know, we’re the group tasked with helping bring your ideas to improve the Sierra ILS to fruition through ballots sent to the IUG membership. We’re currently working with III on choosing ideas for scoring & inclusion on the enhancement ballot for Sierra 6.8. Once completed, Sierra site administrators should expect the ballot in the weeks ahead, & Sierra 6.8’s release will be sometime next spring.
While there’s a great deal of potential in the current crop of ideas, we wanted to reach out to the Sierra user community to encourage you to contribute your experience & expertise to the Idea Exchange. Whether you have a suggestion of your own to share or visit the enhancement platform to like & comment on existing requests, your participation in this process is essential to how these ideas take shape, are discussed & refined through feedback from Sierra users, & ultimately realized by Sierra’s developers.
As we’ve begun the process of selecting items for development for Sierra 6.8, anything submitted after this point will be up for possible inclusion in release 6.9 & beyond.
In the last year, there have been over 900 new feature requests submitted to Idea Exchange, along with nearly 14,000 votes & 1600 comments. There are currently 262 feature requests for the Sierra ILS, compared to 621 for Polaris. As a group of Sierra users from public, academic, & research libraries, special collections, & technical services environments, we like to think that’s because Sierra is just that much closer to perfection than Polaris. If you disagree, submit your suggestion(s) for improving the ILS today!
