Is there an easy way to delete 949 tags? I fiddled around with my EDI import profile and if I say to delete them or not keep them the item does not update correctly. Previously in Sierra 949 tags were deleted upon import and the item still created correctly.
Yes, you can configure what is called the $9 clean-up utility. You can find more information about it here: Polaris Staff Client Help
As noted in the setup, this utility does require that you enable the option to add a $9 process subfield to records to mark embedded holdings tags as processed, you can find those instructions here: Polaris Staff Client Help
That would work for your new incoming records. For your existing ones you could use the Bib Bulk Change tool to remove existing 949 fields.
We do. In a consortium, the 949s and 970s stack up quickly with multiple libraries sharing the same bibs. And at least marking the 949s as processed is very important, but removing the tag is safer. We’ve had the odd time when old orders were reprocessed in the system because of lingering tags.
We do ours for 18 months. I think the idea was in case there was any end of the year acquisitions stuff and someone wanted to be able to refer back to what was originally in the record.
