Coverage Load Woes and Alternatives: Automating Accurate Electronic Serials Holdings Data in Bibliographic Records
In order to maintain accurate holdings information in a shared database setting, University of Memphis staff spent copious amounts of time creating and updating MARC 856s in our serials records. This effort not only duplicated the work of our knowledge management software, Serials Solutions, but also quickly became outdated and inaccurate. Instead of cleaning up after failed coverage loads or paying Serials Solutions for MARC records, we generated an ISSN-specific, static URL that points to the Serials Solutions resource page. We will address our trial and error process from coverage frustration to elation!
