Content Carousels

Hello!

One of our libraries is looking to embed content carousels on their library website (i.e. outside the PAC). Innovative quoted us to license the Carousel Toolkit. What we’re wondering is this: has anyone else used the carousel toolkit to embed carousels on your library homepage? If you have, would you be willing to share a link to your homepage?

Thanks,
Eleanor

Hi Eleanor,
We used to embed content carousel’s from the PowerPAC on our public website. Staff did not like the process to set them up and manage them. We have since moved to using Vega Showcases. I am not sure if Vega Discover with Showcases is an option for you but Vega Showcases are more modern and visually appealing compared to the classic Content Carousel feature. Sadly, I do not have a link or visual to share with you but here is a link to the guide for Vega, hope this helps… Create an embeddable showcase

We purchased this add on and it was just…not workable. Polaris did not offer support for the product pretty much at all. Instead we used Library Aware’s embeddable book carousels. We have now just switched to Vega and are planning to utilize the Showcase function.

@mfields I think found something recently that works with record sets and which is WCAG/ADA compliant, which is the hardest part with carousels and is probably a reason you see a LOT of newer sites don’t use them anymore. I’ll ask him to chime in with what he found.

Hi @ebrondermajor we use the Carousel Toolkit to embed carousels on several pages on our website and on our PAC. See our May is Wildfire Awareness Month and PAC as an examples. The record sets can be cumbersome and I’ve had to add aspects to the carousels for them to be WCAG 2.0 compliant.

Thank you everyone for your thoughts! It sounds like this library has found an alternate route for now but it is good to know our options
