Bulk Permalinks for Polaris-Based Vega Using SSRS

Greetings!

There was some discussion about permalinks in Vega recently that got me thinking about ways to generate these in bulk using various search criteria/filters. I cooked up some SQL an baked it into an SSRS report. Here’s the .rdl if you want to give it a go:

Bulk Permalinks.rdl (29.0 KB)

You’ll need to update the domain being used for it to spit out permalinks for your own database, but I structured things so that the change can be made with fairly minimal effort:

The report will let you select Bibs based on these criteria:

  • Title Search (based on BrowseTitle)
  • Author Search (based on BrowseAuthor)
  • Subject Search (based on BrowseSubject from MainSubjectHeadings)
  • Material Type
  • Collection
  • Shelf Location
  • Assigned Branch

CircItemRecords have been looped in to get those Item values, which means that Bib results will include Bibs where any Item linked to the record meets the criteria, so be aware of that nuance if you have Bibs with mixed Item values. I would like to add support for surfacing results based on Record Sets… but that occurred to me after I started writing this up…

Anyway, here are some screenshots of the report as it is right now:

I’d like to do a few more things to it to make it more visually appealing or meet other specific use cases (namely the Record Set support), but I’m reasonably happy with where this is now for a random Friday project. If anyone has questions or input, let me know!

Nice! This is also similar to one of my favorite things to do with Patron, Bib and Item IDs - link them directly to Leap records.

Although, sadly, the Leap linking doesn’t work as well as it could because if you’re not logged in, then after you login you get dumped to the Leap “homepage” rather than it redirecting you to the record. I submitted that as an idea, but it looks like it fell off by the wayside. If you’re logged into Leap, though, those links to records work great!

Oh, interesting! It never occurred to me that we could construct links to content in LEAP… It would probably be pretty trivial to add those into this output in a second column…:face_with_monocle:
