Acq - moving POLI/INVLI to a different bib?

Question: Is there a way to move POLI and INVLI records to a different bib without merging?

Scenario: We have a bib with active items on it. It’s popular, so we order more - same ISBN, so the new POLI attaches to the existing bib and our Rec’ing staff pay the INVLI on that bib when it arrives.

Then, our Cataloging staff get the item in hand and notice that the new order has a new imprint (for example). Same ISBN, but now we need a new bib - we do not put different editions of the same item on the same bibs at our library.

Is there a way (or even a really complicated workaround - we’re desperate!) to move the POLI and INVLI to the correct bib?

I don’t know that there is a way to do what you’re asking, but is it something you really need to happen? Here we’d receive and pay the item on whatever bib it was on when ordered. Then the catalogers do whatever they want as far as making sure the item record is on the right bib. In other words, once it’s paid it doesn’t really make a difference to us which bib was linked to the POLI/INVLI. The item record is still linked, regardless of which bib it might move to.

Our concern is with the INVLI/POLI being attached to the bib, not the item (since those get deleted much more frequently), which is what I think you’re describing in this scenario. If the bib it is attached to gets deleted, then my understanding is that the linked INVLI/POLI are unmoored and no longer attached to anything.

We migrated to Polaris from Sierra a few years ago, and moving POLIs/INVLI info to the bib the items are attached to is easily done in that environment, so I was hoping this was on the horizon for Polaris (or a workaround - are we really the only Polaris library that wants to keep purchasing information linked to the bib? Maybe…)

Thanks so much for the reply - I’m thinking about this a bit differently now.
