Since its inception in 2007, the Beacon Award has honored members who demonstrate exceptional service to the IUG community through presentations, collaborations, and insightful advice.
As the Immediate Past Chair of the IUG Steering Committee, it is my privilege to oversee the Beacon Award process and help celebrate those who’ve contributed in a special way to our community.
While being recognized for your work is always rewarding, what makes this award truly special is that the recognition comes from peers outside your own organization—individuals who appreciate the positive impact the award winner has made within the community.

How to Nominate:
- Check the eligibility requirements.
- Then use our
online form to nominate someone. - Submissions will be accepted through February 21st, 2025 11:59 PM Eastern
Be prepared to share about the nominee’s contributions to the IUG community, including their involvement in conferences, meetings, chat, support via the IUG Forum, Sierra mailing list or in any other IUG format or forum.
You can fill out the form multiple times if you have more than one person you’d like to nominate.
Other Details:
- The Beacon Award Committee will review all submissions.
- The recipient will be announced at IUG 2025 conference and through IUG’s other communication channels.
