Hi!

Is there a way we can configure our app where the links in our text messages open into the library’s app instead of the default browser on one’s phone?

Thank you!

Traci

This is a guess based on a prior life as a mobile developer, so if somebody knows something for real about this with your setup, they’re more like to be right. But…

My guess is no, although this will depend on what platform you’re using for your library app and what they provide. Links that open apps directly on a phone make use of what’s called deeplinking. These links have to: identify and launch a specific app, and then within that app, navigate to the right place (which is not as easy as a URL is on the web, in mobile navigation). As a result, successful deeplinking almost always requires that the party developing the app has set the app up for deeplinking and communicated how to configure a link to get to specific content in the app. The exceptions to this tend to be links to the very-built-in things, like a default clock or messaging app. Unfortunately the major mobile OS’s have not acknowledged a need for a default library app 🙃 Mature deeplinking will also handle failure routes, like if the app is not found on the device.

Anyway, the only way this would work is if your library app provider has set up their mobile app to support deeplinking, and then if that link format they expect is something you can work with in your message content. I think you’re going to want to start this conversation over with them and ask if they support deeplinking to content within the app.
